A Danish power trio, Blindstone were formed in 2002, originally featuring the line-up of Martin J. Andersen (guitar/vocals), Jesper Bunk (bass) and Benjamin Hove (drums). It was this threesome who recorded debut album ‘Manifesto’, which came out in ’03. But Hove soon left, to be replaced by Anders Hvidtfeldt, and this incarnation was responsible for no less than five albums, put out between 2008 – 15.
But last year Hvidtfeldt left the band to concentrate on his xay job, and he’s been replaced by Sigurd Johnk-Jensen, who is featured on Blindstone’s most recent album ‘The Seventh Cycle Eternity’, which came out in ’16.
“What we do is play a style of music that’s closest to our hearts,” reveals Andersen. “Jesper and I go way back, and we have actually been playing in bands together for 25 years. We share a love for late ’60s/’70s bands aand artists like Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Frank Marino and Black Sabbath, as well as Deep Purple and Whitesnake.”
Just to show how respected this band are in wider circles, both Andersen and Bunk guested on a version of ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On’ for the 2005 George Clintno album ‘How Late Do U Have 2BB4UR Late?’, and King’s X guitarist Ty Tabor was featured on the 2010 Blindstone album ‘Rise Above’.
Now, the band will make their first ever live appearance in the UK, when they play on the Blues Stage at Ramblin’ Man. Finally, we get to see why this band are so highly regarded across Europe.
