Sons of Apollo
Who knows how long this outrageously talented band will last given the competing demands of their other projects, but, while they’re here, Sons of Apollo can’t help but burn as brightly as their namesake.
A band comprised of maestros such as Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, Jeff Scott Soto, Derek Sherinian & ex GnR man Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal is, by anyone’s reckoning, a tour de force to be reckoned with and surely as much an American dream team of musical athletes as it is a band. Yet SOA are no ‘supergroup’ of show offs, shackled by commitments to showcase each member, as one listen to their initial online releases Signs of the Time and Lost In Oblivion, handily prove they’re without doubt a mature unit of vast experience but one equally capable of delivering real songs peppered with dynamic moments of interest piquing emotion as much as they are of laying down passages of jaw dropping technique.
SOA may well have a pedigree of experience to match a Grand Master at chess, but within the songs from their recently released debut album, Psychotic Symphony, you can feel the passion and excitement being shared in these new moments of musical creation. Ramblin Man looks forward to what could be the surprise hit of Sunday afternoon at the Fair.
