Martin Turner ex Wishbone Ash
This man is part of rock royalty. Martin Turner built his reputation as a member of Wishbine Ash during the band’s glory years. He was not only lead vocalist and bassist with the band, but also a crucial songwriter. Turner was a major part of Wishbone Ash from 1969 to 1980, when they established themselves as one the great British bands. Subsequently, he rejoined them twice, before finally severing ties in 1997.
Turner put together the first line-up of his own band in 2004, when they toured playing a mix of classic Ash songs plus material which was less well known. This was captured on the albums ‘New Live Dates Vol. 1’ and ‘New Live Dates Vol. 2’, which were released in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Original Wishbone Ash guitarist Ted Turner guested with them on both these live records.
After a tour playing the whole of the seminal Wishbone Ash album ‘Argus’ in its entirety, the band then re-recorded all the songs in the studio for 2008’s ‘Argus Through The Looking Glass’. This featured guest appearances from John Wetton (also a former member of Wishbone Ash) and Geoff Downes.
In 2010, Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash played at the High Voltage Festival in London, and the next year put out the live DVD ‘The Life Begins Tour – Live In Leicester 2010’. And in 2015, they put out the album ‘Written In The Stars’, which has all new original material.
Now the band – also featuring Danny Wilson (guitar/harmony vocals), Misha Nikolic (guitar) and Tim Brown (drums/harmony vocals) – are bringing their blend of classic Ash and new songs to the Prog In The Park Stage at Ramblin’ Man.
