Ramblin’ Man star teases forthcoming album with brand new song Last Chance
Anyone who says the guitar hero is dead hasn’t seen Jared James Nichols. The Milwaukee native has muscled his way to the front of today’s six-string pack like a hair-flailing hybrid of Stevie Ray Vaughan, prime Ted Nugent and Zakk Wylde.
Exhibit A is the video for JJN’s brand new song, Last Chance, which finds the guitarist – who opens the Planet Rock Main Stage at Ramblin’ Man on Saturday July 29 – rocking out to a bunch of classic LPs (we spotted Cream’s Disraeli Gears in there).
“It’s easily the hardest hitting song I’ve ever written,” he says. “I completely let it all hang out and went wild. Even the guitar solo is off the wall, blazing fast and absolutely crazy. I needed to set the bar high for the new record and come out with the bang.”
‘The new record’ is Black Magic, the follow-up to Nichols’ 2015 debut album, Old Glory & The Wild Revival. Black Magic comes out in September, a few weeks after his Ramblin’ Man appearance. Bonus fact: both Last Chance and Black Magic were co-produced by Tony Perry, son of Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry.
Fans of hotshot guitarist will be spoilt for choice at this year’s Ramblin’ Man. As well as Jared James Nichols, the weekend’s line-up features blues-rock queen Joanne Shaw Taylor, teen prodigy Aaron Keylock, kick-boxing bluesman Kris Barras and Texan shitkicker Tyler Bryant lining up alongside such giants as Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and more. To get you in the mood, here’s our Ultimate Guitar Solos playlist, as picked by YOU.
